LIBERTY ACADEMY CHARTER SCHOOL
Parent Involvement Policy

In acknowledgement of much reliable research proving the parental involvement raises the academic achievement of students, Liberty Academy Charter School encourages involvement of parents through an active Parent Volunteering, and an active PTO. Parents are encouraged to assist in such activities as: The Ice Cream Social, Pizza Night, Fun Day, and Fall Festival. Parent Volunteers will be solicited to tutor children. A calendar that includes activities of all of the school’s leadership group, is to be produced annually. The Joint Calendar will include at least one family activity per school month.
In order to build an effective home-school partnership, Liberty Academy Charter School will provide the following:

1. An annual orientation meeting where parents will meet their child’s teacher and be reassured of their right and responsibility to be involved in their child’s education.

2. A flexible number of meetings and activities throughout the year to assist parents in understanding the federal and state academic content and student achievement standards, as well as local academic assessments. Meetings will also focus on how parents and teachers can work together to monitor the child’s progress in order to improve student achievement.

3. A varied schedule for meetings and conferences in order to accommodate the needs of parents.

4. A minimum of two scheduled parent conferences, where the progress of the student will be discussed as well as the expectations for the grade level, school curriculum, test information and any other concerns that the teacher or parent may have.

5. Continuous communication to assist parents in understanding the school curriculum and student achievement through News and Notes, Report Card, Parent-Pupil Handbook, handouts and mailings and student achievement reports. Newsletters will include parenting tips and suggestions. All invitations will be sent in a timely manner with an additional follow-up reminder.

6. A school-parent compact designed by parents and school staff that outlines how parents, school staff and students share the responsibility for improving learning.

7. Every year, a survey for all parents shall be conducted to collect opinions and concerns of parents about the current program and to collect suggestions for improvement and topics for meetings that meet the needs of parents.

8. Parents must attend a minimum of Six (6) PTO meetings a year.

Every effort will be made to communicate with parents in a format and language that is free of educational jargon and easily understandable by all. Parents and community member are always to be made welcome at Liberty Academy Charter School.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

No Child Left Behind (NCLB) was designed to make changes in teaching and learning that will help our students achieve more in school. The law requires that all schools receiving federal funds must inform parents of their right to ask schools about the qualifications of their child's teachers.

We believe that nothing is more important to your child's education at school than having a well-prepared and highly qualified teacher. The law requires that all teachers must meet a specific legal definition of a Highly Qualified Teacher has three parts.

1. A four-year college degree;

2. A regular teaching certificate/license; and

3. Proof of their knowledge in the subject they teach.

All our regular teachers have college degrees and many have advanced degrees. The state of New Jersey has always required a teaching certificate/license for all teachers. In addition, every teacher continues his or her own learning through professional development activities and our teachers are evaluated each year to make sure that teaching skills remain at the highest possible level.

We believe that every teacher in our school has met the definition of highly qualified as defined by NCLB. A highly qualified teacher knows what to teach, how to teach, and has a full understanding of the subject matter being taught.

We encourage you to support your child's education and communicate with his or her teacher on a regular basis. By joining forces --- families and educators --- we can provide our children with the best education possible.

Sincerely,

Dr. Anna Villafane

Chief Executive Officer

Estimado Padre/Tutor:

1. Un bachillerato universitario de cuatro años;

2. Un certificado regular de maestro; y

Sinceramente,

Dr. Anna Villafane, Ph.D

Chief Executive Officer
