AHERA ANNUAL NOTIFICATION LETTER
Dear Liberty Academy Charter School Parents and Staff:
As per the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act [(AHERA) 40 CFR Part 763], an inspection for the presence of asbestos-containing building materials has been completed, and an Asbestos Management Plan developed, for Liberty Academy Charter School.
The inspection report and asbestos management plan file are available for review in the school office during normal school/office hours. Upon request, copies will be provided for a reasonable charge.
As required by the USEPA additional inspections of the school are conducted every six months by properly accredited staff of the Archdiocese of Newark.

Inclement Weather Notice
In case of inclement weather please tune in to Fox 5 – TV Channel or News 12 New Jersey. They will announce/post the school closing for LIBERTY ACADEMY CHARTER SCHOOL. Please watch closely the posting at the bottom of the screen or a special bulletin for school closings in Hudson County.

Parent Broadcast System
LACS will be using a broadcast system to communicate. Messages pertaining to school events, and school closings will be done by either telephone calls or text message. Please verify with the main office that your contact telephone numbers are correct.
Dear Liberty Academy Parent/Guardians:
It is with enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2011-2012 school term at Liberty Academy Charter School. While NJASK scores are pending, it is also with a sense of pride that I can report to you that during the previous school term we expect test scores to greatly improve. This same dedication to learning will be renewed this school year. The Liberty Academy Charter School Board of Trustees, administration, and staff are honored to serve your child. First year parents and students “Welcome”.
Report cards were mailed for the 2010-2011 school year. The report cards are a follow-up to the end of year conferences held with the teachers. Please contact the office if there are any questions or concerns. In addition, we have included a grade specific summer reading list. Please insure that your child completes all the readings as well as the enrichment assignments. All summer assignments will be graded and included in the first marking period. Reading assignments have been posted on our website www.Libertyacademy.org .
Liberty Academy Board of Trustees adopted a new uniform policy and vendor, effective June 30, 2011. Flynn & O’Hara Inc will be supplying the uniforms. I encourage you to contact them immediately to place your order at 800-441-4122, fax 215-637-6392, website and email. All students are required to wear Flynn O’Hara’s navy/khaki stripe tie, white oxford shirts that have the engraved school logo and khaki pants/slacks. Vest sweaters with emblem are also required for winter dress. Black shoes are recommended. Each student is expected to wear their gym attire on the days that they have gym. UNFORTUNATELY, PREVIOUS UNIFORMS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. Uniforms demonstrate school pride. Therefore, I am asking for your full support. All students must be in full uniform September 6, 2011.
Every student will receive Health documents that require your attention. Please insure that all documents are completed and submitted to Ms. Gourdet, School Nurse before September 6, 2011.
A Parent Orientation has been scheduled on September 9, 2011 at 5:00pm. Your attendance is requested. At this meeting all your questions will be answered. In addition, you will receive two complementary tickets for the “Back to School BBQ”. I am also requesting you to R.S.V.P. as soon as possible so proper preparations can be made in advance. Please call (201) 217-6773 and confirm your attendance! If your child is in 6th- 8th grade they will be requested to attend a middle school orientation on September 9, 2011 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The orientation will be held at a local recreational park. Additional information will be forthcoming. However, please save the date.
Applications for our after-school program are located in the main office. The after-school program officially begins on September 11, 2011 from 3:15 pm – 6:00 pm. The fee is $50.00 per week.
I am kindly requesting all parents to send in to school (first day of school) a ‘disaster kit.’ This kit will contain: any medications your child takes regularly and will be supervised by the school nurse, dry food (cereal, granola bars, etc). You have the option to include juice and/or bottled water. A change of clothing would also be useful. These kits will be stored in your child’s classroom. It is a precautionary measure only.
I invite you to visit LACS, meet staff and witness the various exciting, teaching and learning tools we use to enhance academic achievement. Furthermore, witness the rapid pace that Liberty Academy Charter School is accelerating with technology.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
It is a pleasure to welcome new and returning students to Liberty Academy Charter School. The teachers and staff are excited and look forward to challenging our students as we partner with you, to build academic champions. This academic year we will implement new programs and initiatives to celebrate the kind, thoughtful and good decisions made by our students every day. It is our goal at Liberty Academy to promote, develop good academic achievement and school citizenship. We strive for all our students to be prepared for academic life, being examples of good citizens, who are rarely absent or tardy, and recognize the importance of learning.
Our students are encouraged to enjoy the challenges of increased responsibility, form healthy relationships with other students, and participate in school activities of their choice. It is our intention to continue to emphasize our character education by presenting a variety of programs and assemblies.
We are continuing to move in innovative ways to provide our students with a challenging and academically outstanding education. Through staff meetings, workshops, consensus building, increased internal and external articulation, our vision is to ensure student achievement. Together as a team, we are optimistic we can achieve our goals!
